5 – Number Ninety Two
Co-ordinators: Lisa Procter and Russell Light
No. 92 is a large building in the city-centre of Sheffield, near Paradise Square, that is home to the ‘Permanence and Throughcare’ services, which forms a part of Children & Young People’s Directorate (CYPD) Social Care in Sheffield. The building is the main contact point for support services for adopted and fostered children in the city, some of whom may live with families in other parts of the country.
The building is rented and was not specifically designed for the range of activities that take place there. The live project aims to enhance the facilities offered in the building and among other things will explore the creation of a better entrance, safe play spaces, a ‘Connexions’ space and a library/quiet space.
Expectations:
- To provide an overview of how the building is used and by whom
- To document users feelings of both the interior and exterior of the building
- To include and value the involvement of a diverse range of users, including those who are ‘hard to reach’, throughout the course of the project
- To give young people a sense of ownership over the parts of the building they use
- To make some ‘light’ alterations to the building that start to meet some of the issues outlined in the brief
- To provide ideas for future development
